SPATIALISM

Spatialism is a post-World War Two art movement founded in Italy by artist Lucio Fontana. It aimed to bridge the gap between art, science, and technology. Spatialist artists break the boundaries of a canvas or environment, exploring space to seek a dimension of art that moves beyond material limitations, that finds an opening to the infinite. Incorporating the viewer’s environment and even physical interventions, elements such as colour, sound, movement and time all become part of the artwork itself.

Go beyond the surface, enter and experience.

"I do not want to make a painting; I want to open up space, create a new dimension, tie in the cosmos, as it endlessly expands beyond the confining plane of the picture."

Lucio Fontana (1899 - 1968)
